Leeds Fall Festival & John Henry Celebration

10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Previously known as the Leeds Downtown Folk Festival, the name has been changed to better reflect the event’s purpose of promoting Leeds and bringing people to historic downtown Leeds on the third weekend in September.

According to the Fall Festival planning committee, the outdoor event will feature great food, a variety of live music, entertainment, live play, art, a car show and lots of activities for children, young people and those young at heart.

Two Performances of Original Outdoor Play
About John Henry

After a several year hiatus, this year’s festival will feature two performances of the original outdoor play about John Henry.  “Listen to that Cold Steel Ring” on September 21, 2019 near the grounds of the Leeds historic railroad depot.  Henry, an African-American railroad man, is believed to have died after winning a contest against a stream drill as the company he worked for blasted tunnels through mountains south of Leeds in the 1880’s.

John Henry Disney Movie will Play at Library

The Disney American Legends animated movie, John Henry will show at the library every 15 minutes from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.

Birmingham Youth Fellowship Choir Performing

We are excited to announce that the Birmingham Youth Fellowship Choir will perform.  This choir was formed in June 2015 and directed by Ahkeem R. Lee, a recent graduate of Birmingham-Southern College. The choir has performed at the Gospel Music Workshop of America, the annual MLK Unity Breakfast, and opened up for Senator Doug Jones and Bishop Marvin Winans.

Live Music & Entertainment All Over Downtown Leeds

Live Music and Entertainers will be spread all over the downtown John Henry Celebration area.  Musicians and activities are scheduled at the Depot, the Gazebo on 9th Street, Leeds Threatre & Arts Center, the library and also Roaming Musicians will be on the streets.

A Full Day of Family Fun Planned

Vintage Antique Car Show

A vintage antique car show has been confirmed for this year’s festival.  Dixie Vintage Antique Automobile Club has confirmed their participation and will have a competition among its members.  We are very excited because they are Alabama’s Oldest Car Club!  For more information about them, please visit www.dvaac.com
